Common Laptop Pc Misconceptions Dispelled

by Andrew Johnson

Laptops have become incredibly popular in today's technologically advancing society, and they are often necessary for school or work. PC notebooks have become essential to many college students and professionals. Some schools require students to have a notebook computer and others give students one when they enroll. It is surprising that so many odd myths still persist about these small computers.

Portable computers have been on the market since the early 1980s, but they did not become widely used until the 1990s. Today, PC notebooks come in many sizes and are designed to be used in different ways. The newest trend in portable computers is netbooks. These are small PC notebook computers that are intended to be used for surfing the web while you are on the go. Laptops are more popular than they ever have been, but myths about them still persist. The following list of laptop misconceptions may surprise you.

Myth 1: Laptops are always more expensive than desktop computers.

This is not always the case. There are many PC notebooks that are more expensive than desktop computers, but if you compare prices you will find that many PC notebooks can be purchased for the same price or a lower price than many desktop computers. With the release of the new netbook computers they can be found at surprisingly low prices. How much you spend on a computer depends upon how you intend to use it. If you need a better graphics card for gaming, you will pay more. If you only use it to surf the web you will not need to spend as much.

Myth 2: Laptop batteries do not last long enough to use them when you do not have a power outlet.

Portable computer batteries have improved over the last ten years and they actually last much longer than they used to. Most of today's PC notebooks actually have a battery life between six and eight hours. They do not have to be charged as frequently as older portable computers did. You still have to recharge them at least once a day, but that is not so difficult.

Myth 3: Laptops do not have as many features as desktops.

Portable computers today have just as many features as desktop computers and they can be customized to suit your needs. These portable PCs can be upgraded with better graphics cards for gamers or better sound cards for music lovers. They also come with built-in webcams and microphones to make connecting with peers easy while you are on the go.

Portable computers have made many changes since they were introduced in the nineteen eighties, and the changes have been for the better. Today's notebook PC has wireless connections, a longer battery span, excellent graphics, bigger memory capacity, duel-core or quad-core processors, and lots of other options. They can also be found for reasonably low prices. It is time to re-think the myths.
